It was well after midnight before Brandon dozed off in Damian’s arms, curled up with his back against Damian’s chest. Damian pulled the blankets further up, making sure his mate was comfortable, and wrapped an arm around Brandon.

“Sleep well,” he whispered, pressing a kiss against his shoulder.

“Night,” Brandon murmured, his eyes already closed as he pressed closer to Damian.

Damian wrapped his arm tight around his mate, reveling in how good it felt to lie here with his mate, and his dragon content at knowing its most precious treasure was right here with them. Tomorrow, they would have another day that would be just as glorious as today had been. He would take care of his mate, see to his every want and need, and make sure that there would be no more unwanted visitors. Anger rose up inside of him at the memory of the stranger that had intruded on his territory earlier. He should’ve killed him when he had the chance.

A tiny voice pointed out that Brandon had known the stranger and would probably be disappointed and angry, but his dragon dismissed that. His mate would be impressed by Damian’s strength and ability to keep him safe!

It was a tempting thought to go out right now and follow the trail, but it was impossible to leave his mate unprotected.

Damian closed his eyes, dreaming of what he could’ve done instead, and fantasizing about what tomorrow morning would bring.
